Traveling to Nigeria

Cindi and I have landed in Nigeria and arrived safely in Egbe, Kogi State. Chris Harris did an admirable job getting us to the airport via his scenic route. Thanks to Jerry Haas and Worldreach for the lift.

Check-in at the airport went very smooth. We ended up with the 4 totes at 69.5# each and an electrical panel also weighing in at just under 70#. (Cindi had actually taken our first packed tote to Printz Plus to double-check our bathroom scale). The lady behind the counter was very impressed with our calculations.

We took a hit at security and lost 2 jars of peanut butter out of my suitcase, but that was all. The peanut butter in our other carry-on was apparently not a problem and sailed right through the trained observations of the TSA.

We have lots of really swell pictures from our travels, but are having problems getting them to this blog. We'll keep trying and blitz you with them when we can.

After flying all night we landed in Frankfort and met up with Billy after a mad dash through the airport. Not the friendliest airport in the world, but it was great to see him.  He had been on a 2 week break in Spain and had a chance to see our son who is working near Seville. They ate well and consumed much gelato together.

Next was a 6 hour flight to Abuja which got us there around three in the afternoon. The boys in the control tower must have been on break.......a small white truck with yellow flashers guided us to our gate.

Customs and baggage were relatively easy, but having Billy with us made all the difference in the world. All our totes full of supplies made it there intact and not pilfered at all.

Here's where I need the pictures. This is a very primitive third world country and the environment is not necessarily overly hostile, but neither did I feel any freedom to take any snaps.  Our driver, Ayo, is an employee of the hospital where we're heading. He's a big, burly Nigerian that loves The Lord.  He can also mix it up with the best of them when it comes to driving. The near misses were quite frequent and he tried to burn up his horn.

Cindi and I were exhausted when we arrived at the Baptist Guest House (mainly from the 45 minute drive in Friday rush hour...harrowing). Many different ministries use this house for overnight lodging.       Ray Adams may have stayed here before.

More to come later. We're skyping with Jessica from Italy. Good to talk with her.
